I just learned from our FDC Partner, CSU's CFERT, that Qualistar has a comprehensive trainer & curriculum qualification process and standards.

Their work, although quite comprehensive and catering to a large but specific and licensed crowd, might be a model for the Network in the future.

There's also Hooper & Hannafin's instructional design model--ROPES.  Read an overview of their model here.

Some thoughts for the end of 2010--
New Training Team volunteers were welcomed at the end of the year, and with 9 events scheduled for the first half of 2010, more will be needed to help with April's Resource Fair.  The Team also decided to charge for non-members to attend Lunch-n-Learns.  While the economy is tight, we want to make sure members receive every possible value from their investment in our young and small but growing organization.
A list of trainer suggestions was developed, helped in part with the info from the survey.  Are there other trainers out there that you'd recommend?  I know Stride's Executive Director, Dr. Raymond Peacock, also offered his services in organizational management and services to seniors.
Two memberships were given away at the well-attended October event on mandatory reporting. Did you receive one of those?  Are give-aways something you'd like to see happen at trainings?  If so, these need to be donated or solicited.  We were hoping that some of the nearly 200 attendees would join the Network as members, and although that has not yet been the case, more people are aware of the Network's resources and listserve.
The Network has also applied to host a summer intern from the DU school of social work.  Do other organizations know about this opportunity?  If anyone has a position description to share with us, that would be welcome!

The health care industry has a comprehensive list of competencies that have been deemed relevant and apply to their professional development.  (You can see that rubric at https://www.co.train.org/Competencies/compskill.aspx?tabID=94).

What are the competencies you see as relevant to human services, or any subset thereof?

    Reviewed Previous Events:
    1. Resource Fair went very well with minimal effort.
      1. Great to have Rusha’s helpers there
      2. Location was just big enough
      3. Next year, diversify even more
      4. Use website for registration, rather than Evite
      5. Great to collaborate with 4 different groups

Mental Health Training in March a success

      1. Had approx 70 attend
      2. Great feedback for Deb, with exception of rushed end to first session
      3. Bring her back next year to do full-day training without worrying about reaching those who have previously attended- keep it focused on new folks
      4. Refine scope

     Update Training Calendar:

    1. Moved “Cultural Competency” to November; Alicia will follow-up with a couple of potential communicators
    2. Matt will discuss “Motivational Interviewing” half-day or full-day options with presenter and will send Rachael final decision along with a description of the class by Monday for marketing to begin next week. Date is June 19th, location VOA
    3. Rachael is finalizing location for June & July Lunch & Learn’s
    4. Alicia is following up with Gathering Place re: July DV 101 training
    5. September Day Conference topic changing slightly to Trauma-informed Leadership Summit; will likely be a 2-day conference. Matt is checking into a grant which would allow us to do a 2-day conference and keep the cost very low. Looking at the last week of Sept for this.
    6. Tentative date for Child Abuse/Neglect & Mandatory Reporting is Oct 25. Carl is the POC with Anne, Kate & Terese helping contact a few communicators for a panel. Anne suggested marketing to all faith-based non-profits including churches, with the scope of the topic to include safe reporting for non-mandatory reporters. Anne will also check with Montview Pres regarding a space for this event that could attract 300. Will be a half-day training.
    7. Rachael, with help from others, will compile a very short survey to send out to all HSN contacts regarding topics for 2010 calendar to be sent out at the end of June, in preparation of our July 9 meeting.

     Next Meetings:

June 4- to follow up on above training calendar issues

July 9- to discuss and set tentative 2010 calendar; begin assigning POC’s

I hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's/President's Day weekend! Here are the notes from Thursday's meeting. Please take a second to read through them- I will keep them brief, but there are a few areas where we need your feedback/response.
    Updated Calendar 2009
2/17 Lunch & Learn: Asset Building with the United Way: Point Of Contact- Alicia/Julie
3/31 Mental Health Part 1 and 2: POC Alicia
4/23 (notice date change) Resource Fair: POC Matt & Alicia
Early May- Cultural Competency: POC Virginia Longoria?
    June- Motivational Interviewing: POC Matt
June- Lunch & Learn: Child Health Plus: Ileana Perez
July 14- Domestic Violence (101 course): POC Terese
July- Lunch & Learn: Alzheimers- POC Balbina/Victoria Miller
Aug- Bridges Out Of Poverty Overview: POC Alicia & Annie
Aug- Lunch & Learn: Education presented by Colorado Youth For A Change: POC Alicia & Katie Neal
Sep- Day Conference Secondary Trauma: POC Matt
Oct 16: Lunch & Learn- Sexual Harrassment Policies POC Ann Maier
Oct- Child Abuse/Neglect & Mandatory Reporting: POC Carl (would like a Co-POC)
Nov: Lunch & Learn- Importance of Early Childhood Education: POC Julie
Nov: Lunch & Learn- Aging: POC Alicia
STILL NEEDED REGARDING THE 2009 CALENDAR:
    1. Finalized dates for all that do not have one (this needs to be ASAP so that we can get calendars printed for marketing purposes and I can begin to secure locations. Even for dates in the fall, locations are already being booked, so we don't want to wait too long)
    2. Would anyone be interested in helping Carl do some background research to find out what kinds of training are already available regarding child abuse/neglect so that we are not repeating what's already being done? This would help us narrow the scope of this training.
Other things that we reviewed are the responsibilities of the Point of Contact:
    1. Determine the scope of class/refine topic
    2. Provide Rachael with a quick written summary of topic for marketing purposes
    3. Select/book Educator; work with Training Team to determine fee to be paid, if any
    4. Liaison between Educator and Rachael for resources/materials needed
    Other Items Discussed
    1. We would like to also provide respite/burn out prevention times throughout the year. For discussion is how to pay for these because the providers we would probably ask to lead these times will likely charge us for their services. We also have an extremely full calendar this year, so I don't know personally if this is something we should try to squeeze in there or put it on the goals for 2010. However, I do believe it is extremely important and vital for workers to stay balanced, healthy and have appropriate ways of dealing with all they are dealing with.
    2. Reviewed a timeline provided by Alicia for the responsibilities of a POC. If you need this, please request a copy from Alicia.
    3. Resource Fair- there will be an evite going out soon that will allow you to register either your organization to  participate in the fair, or for yourself as an attendee of the fair.
Please let me know if you have any questions on what was covered. If you are interested in assisting on a topic, please let us know. We especially need some help refining the child abuse topic, and anyone familiar with benefits/resources for the aging. I think we're in good shape on most of the other topics, though each POC may appreciate having someone else interested in that topic to help shape the scope of the training.
    Thanks everyone-
